The Structural Engineer, Volume 76, Issue 7, 1998
The paper provides a general overview of the structural design of a unique and complex covered sewage treatment works in Swansea, South Wales, by illustrating the diversity of issues that were addressed, requiring varied and innovative solutions. The structural design philosophy, methods of analysis and detailing adopted to address key serviceability criteria are also examined. J.K. Kenward
There has been considerable debate in the past about The Structural Engineer and whether it reflects the members’ wishes regarding the content of their journal. 5 years ago the view was expressed that it contained too many academic papers and too few that were of direct relevance to practising engineers. This was considered to be the consequence of: - the onus on researchers to publish the results of their research in order to maintain funding engineers which left little time for writing papers - the commercial pressures on practising engineers which left little time for writing papers R.A.
