The subject of this paper is wide and varied and an attempt has been made to embrace only the more general points likely to affect the professional career of the average engineer or architect. Extraordinary legal points frequently arise during a contract
and are contested, but for many of these precedents cannot be quoted and the result
is generally unsatisfactory to both parties. The architect or engineer concerned may not have a similar case during the rest of his career; such cases have been avoided in this discussion.
