A message from the President

On behalf of the Institution of Structural Engineers, I welcome you to our new website, whether it is your first visit or you are logging in to see the many changes that have taken place.

The new website is part of the digital transformation project being undertaken by the Institution over the past 18 months and endorsed by the Board and CEO. It represents the first manifestation of this undertaking as we improve and enhance the services available to all our members as well as providing information on structural engineering to the general public.

The new website is a collaboration across all the departments within the Institution to ensure the site provides up to date information on the many Institution activities across the world. 

The Institution is transforming its online presence to support the wider long-term corporate business agenda by leading the professional development of structural engineering and connecting structural engineers worldwide. 

Among the features you will find information on the wider world of structural engineering, creating a site that:

• profiles our modern members
• provides a space for inspiration, articulating how structural engineers do amazing things and why careers are so exciting
• champions the vital contribution structural engineers make to society

Enhanced features of the new website include:

• an integrated shop, delivering improved access to our highly respected publications
• The Structural Engineer archive included in the main site navigation
• searchable events, so you can more easily find out what’s happening near you
• searchable resources – allowing us to better share knowledge 

Over the coming months, you will see further development of the website with more features added as the Institution continues to be the leading voice on structural engineering. Expect to see further information on our new website offering through email and other social media platforms.  

As the ethos of the digital transformation project has been based around our users’ needs, I would encourage all our membership and other visitors to use the website. I would encourage you to let us have your feedback on your experiences of the improved facility. In responding with any feedback, and to facilitate coordination of responses, please use the online form.  

Finally, a word of thanks to the Institution staff, our membership and all who have contributed to the development of the website to date and we look forward to seeing further additions and enhancements over the coming months.
