In April this year, parliament passed the Building Safety Act (BSA) into legislation covering Higher Risk Buildings in England and Wales. The Act is in response to the Hackitt review of the construction industry following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The legislation is designed to provide greater safety, quality, transparency of the building process and accountability of the professionals involved. Furthermore, the Act aims to provide key stakeholders, such as residents, with reassurance and confidence that the buildings that they are utilising are safe.
The Institution is pleased to announce that it has established a dedicated page on its website to provide resources to support structural engineers. The Government, the HSE and BSR are expected to release additional information and clarification, and we will continue to update you and provide resources to support you as it becomes clearer.
