After interviews were concluded by the judging panel and approval was received from the Education Committee, we are pleased to announce that the 2024 Pai Lin Li Travel Grant winner is Lucy Fryer.
The Pai Lin Li Travel Grant is an opportunity for young members to pursue innovative and creative ideas in another country. The grant provides a fantastic opportunity to spend four to six weeks experiencing the technical, economic, social and political conditions in another country and to examine how these various factors affect the practice of structural engineering. Winners of the grant then feedback their findings of research conducted to the Institution.
Tough Competition
The award this year received a high volume of entries, which were shortlisted to
three exceptional finalists: Lucy Fryer, Andrew Smith and Hora Behnejad. The judges had a tough task, examining the proposals submitted and sitting down for an interview with each of the finalists.
Lucy Fryer MEng
Lucy Fryer was named the 2024 Pai Lin Li winner, a Graduate member working for London Structures Lab. Lucy research upon winning this grant will include exploring the European green hydrogen productions, DRI plants and EAF-DRI plants in Germany and Spain.
