As part of our governance as a global Institution, invitations open on the 22 April 2025 to all voting members to consider standing for election to the Board as Vice Presidents and Council.

These positions are a great opportunity to play an important and influential role in the future direction of the Institution, to build your network, and to inspire the future generation of structural engineers.

Emails will be sent to voting members soon with details about standing for election for these collaborative roles:

  • Vice President (Trustee) 2026 – 2028: One vacancy to be filled by election.

Vice President to be elected from the electoral region UK and Europe

  • Vice President (Trustee) 2026 – 2028: One vacancy to be filled by election.

Vice President to be elected from the electoral region Australasia and South-East Asia.

For these two vacancies, we welcome invitations to stand for election from Chartered Structural Engineers, based in the relevant electoral region, who have submitted a current Institution Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Return.

  • Ordinary Member of Council 2026 – 2028: Three vacancies to be filled by election.

We welcome Chartered Structural Engineers, Associates, Incorporated Structural Engineers, Technician Members and Graduate members to stand for election for these three positions. They must also have submitted a current Institution Continuing Professional Development return.

Further information and nomination forms, which must be completed by the candidate and supported by ten other voting members, are available at www.cesvotes.com/istructe

Voting documents will then be issued and votes can then be made either electronically or by post.
The results will be published in The Structural Engineer, in our member’s e-newsletter, and on the IStructE website.
We also provide background documents below about our Royal Charter, The Role of Council, and the Role of the Trustee Board.
