This EEFIT Field Mission Report describes the 7.8 Mw earthquake which struck Muisne, Ecuador on 16 April 2016. It describes the geological and geotechnical conditions and details observations relating to the earthquake's effects on local structures.

The report describes the geological sequence of events which led to the earthquake, including the tectonic setting and local and active faulting. The geotechnical failures incorporate details of liquefaction and landslides.

In relation to structural effects, the report includes:

  • Seismic hazard considerations in the local building code
  • Building performance
  • Infrastructure performance
  • Socio-economic and community vulnerability
