This EEFIT Research Grant report assesses the earthquake resilience of central Thessaloniki using multiple data sources and automated city-scale modelling. The study develops a digital model of 1,252 buildings to estimate expected damage, functionality loss and recovery needs under different earthquake scenarios.
The report shows how automated simulation can help engineers and decision-makers identify vulnerable buildings, prioritise interventions and plan more effective recovery. It also finds that targeted pre-earthquake retrofitting of the most vulnerable buildings can be financially viable and help reduce damage and disruption.
