Engineering intelligence: AI, data and the human skills shaping the profession

Yasmin joined the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2023 having successfully led the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK since 2017 where she established its strategy and directed domestic and global operations. With an extensive career spanning the private, public and charity sectors, Yasmin possesses a wealth of experience in developing strategies, growing international partnerships, and delivering complex transformations across multiple organisations. 

Eloïse, a French/ British national, brings two decades of experience to the Paris office. Having worked in London, Edinburgh, Seattle and Paris Eloïse has a global perspective when it comes to structural engineering; this has shaped her views about beautiful detailing, robust structures, and doing good in this world through engineering and our engineering practice at EQUILIBRIUM.

Eloïse has worked on a variety of projects including the largest mass timber project in the USA (The Walmart Home Office), The French American School of Puget Sound, the Riyadh Metro Project and has experience in housing (private and social), transportation, mass timber and commercial projects.

 

As an early career engineer from an underrepresented background, Lina brings a dual perspective to the evolving engineering landscape, both as someone navigating emerging technologies, and as an active advocate for racial equality within the profession. She serves on Ramboll's Racial Equality Network, working to create more inclusive pathways and cultures in engineering.

Lina is particularly interested in how data can shed light into disparities in career progression and workplace experiences, and how AI tools might create more accessible routes to expertise or risk reinforcing existing biases if not implemented thoughtfully. As she works toward IStructE chartership, she is passionate about building engineering teams where diverse voices shape both technical innovation and collaborative practice.
 

Dawn MBE FREng is a senior engineer and international leader specialising in sustainable development, ethics, and diversity, equality and inclusion within engineering.

She is Professor of Practice in Engineering for Sustainable Development at King’s College London and Professor of Engineering at Aston University. She also serves as Executive Director of the Commonwealth Engineers’ Council, leading work on global engineering capacity and capability.

Dawn is Past President and former Chief Executive of the Women’s Engineering Society, and founder of International Women in Engineering Day. She also runs the social enterprise Magnificent Women and is Founder and Director of Towards Vision, supporting inclusive engineering practice worldwide.

She is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
 
 

Peter is Customer Services Lead and Quality Systems Manager at Oasys | Arup Digital Technology. He is the author of Computational engineering, published by the
Institution of Structural Engineers.

Livia is a Principal Civil Engineer at the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), UK, and a Chartered Engineer with extensive international working experience. She holds a degree from the University of Auckland and is currently studying part-time for an MSc in Railway Systems and Integration at the University of Birmingham. She became a Fellow of the ICE in 2024 and the IStructE in 2025.

Before joining RSSB, Livia worked in infrastructure design, development and construction roles with organisations such as Beca (New Zealand), Maunsell (Hong Kong) and Network Rail. She is now Technical Lead for civil engineering standards for the GB railway industry, contributing to key guidance and standards development, and is actively involved in international research and standards groups, including UIC, BSI and CEN.

Alongside her engineering career, Livia holds an MA from the University of Leeds as a scholarship recipient and founded Project DIVFUSE, a London-based non-profit platform showcasing work by international sound and multimedia artists.
