Speakers

Alix Dietzel

Senior Lecturer in Climate Justice, SPAIS, University of Bristol

Alix has 14 years of academic experience and has focused mainly on ethical aspects of climate policy and more recently just transition, focusing both on the global and local scale. She also sits on the Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change and is the Associate Director for Impact and Innovation at the Cabot Institute for the Environment. Alix works across disciplines, and her main focus has been on the importance of inclusive decision making and ensuring that the most affected are heard.

Flavia de Luca

Professor of Structural and Earthquake Engineering, University of Bristol

Flavia earned her PhD in Seismic Risk from the University of Naples in 2012 and became a Lecturer at the University of Bristol in 2014. Flavia has been working over the last fifteen years in earthquake engineering and disaster risk reduction. Over the last five years, she has been part of international programmes related to risk and resilience in different countries. Her expertise spans from nonlinear modelling of concrete structures, soil-structure interaction, large-scale experimental testing, structural reliability.

James Norman

Professor of Sustainable Design, University of Bristol

James worked on a wide variety of projects and has designed in a variety of materials, including steel, concrete, timber, earth, straw and glass. In 2015, James moved full-time into academia, where he teaches structural design with a focus on low-carbon solutions. He has co-written Conceptual Design of Buildings and Designing Timber Structures.

Raffaele de Risi

Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the School of Civil, Aerospace, and Design Engineering, University of Bristol

Raffaele received the BSc degree in Civil Engineering and the MSc in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II (Italy) in 2007 and 2009, respectively. In 2013, he was awarded a PhD in Materials Engineering and Structures at the University of Naples Federico II (Italy). His research interests are broad and multidisciplinary and cover a wide range of academic fields, including structural reliability, engineering seismology, earthquake engineering, tsunami engineering, flood risk, and decision-making under uncertainty, covering several countries around the world.
