We are delighted to announce the launch of a bursary scheme designed to support structural engineers across Africa by removing financial barriers to access to the Institution’s professional development courses and webinars.

Who can apply?

Applicants must be citizens or residents of an African country, members in good standing of an African Professional Engineering Institution (PEI), and actively engaged in structural engineering practice, research, or academia. Financial need is a key criterion—applicants should qualify for IStructE’s low-income reduction (earning less than £18,000 per annum).

What’s covered?

The bursary can be used to cover registration fees for the Institution’s

  • one-day CPD courses

  • on-demand CPD courses

  • webinars

Awards will range from £70 to £445, depending on the activity selected.

Please note:

  • Bursaries cannot be used to cover travel costs or any CPD activities not organised by IStructE Ltd.
  • The bursary scheme is limited to one course per eligible applicant.

How to apply

Submit an application form below. Proof of membership and a short personal statement is required. Successful applicants will be notified within two weeks.

Your commitment matters

Recipients are expected to share their learning with peers, local IStructE groups, universities, or professional societies, and provide a short reflective report or testimonial for publication on IStructE platforms.

Apply today and join us in shaping the future of structural engineering across Africa.
