Tapered and curved members
Connections, moment connections & avoiding brittle failures
Stability and vertical diaphragm walls
Strength and stiffness of cross laminated timber
Senior engineer/Team leader/Manager
As this is an advanced course, attendance to the Eurocode 5: the essentials of timber design course is a recommended pre-requisite
In alternative, familiarity with timber engineering to Eurocode 5 is expected
25% discount on associated publications: Manual for the design of timber building structures to Eurocode 5 (2nd edition). Please contact [email protected] for more information.
Dr Keerthi Ranasinghe is an Associate at Milner Associates and was previously the Principal Engineer for Structural Timber at BM TRADA. Formerly an academic with research and teaching experience both in the UK and abroad, Keerthi has delivered timber courses for IStructE since 2008. He is the author of several TRADA publications, including Span Tables to Eurocode 5, and the Institution’s Manual for the design of timber building structures to Eurocode 5, 2nd edition. He sits on British and European Standardisation Committees related to timber design.

This one-day, online course offers an introduction to timber design to Eurocode 5.
This one-day, online, practical course introduces timber connections in detail and several other advanced topics in timber design to Eurocode 5.
This course covers the design of common structural elements to Eurocode 2. Participants will be introduced to concrete material properties and learn about designing for durability and fire.
This two-day, online course introduces seismic design of civil engineering structures. It builds on the basics of structural dynamics and engineering seismology. The course focuses on seismic loading and design codes, conceptual seismic design principles and analysis for seismic loading, and design and detailing of structural members.
This one-day, online course delivers key advice and guidance on the seismic design of structures to Eurocode 8, as well as the application of the Eurocode. Emphasis is placed on reinforced concrete buildings although the concepts are widely applicable.
This course provides an introduction to structural steelwork design to Eurocode 3 for building design.
This course equips attendees with practical knowledge about structural design with bamboo stems (culms). The course considers aspects of concept design, detailed design and durability by design.
