The scheme allows professionals to report safety concerns and near-misses. CROSS is a practical way of recognising future risks, promoting cultural change and improving public safety.
CROSS Safety Reports, Safety Alerts, and other information
CROSS publishes safety information based on the reports it receives and publicly available sources. Professionals can use this information in various ways:
• As part of their continuous learning and development
• To improve their safety knowledge
• To stay up to date with emerging safety issues
• To learn more about best practices
All published material is freely available on the CROSS website. You can also sign up to receive CROSS’s quarterly newsletters via email.
CROSS also issues Safety Alerts for significant concerns or occurrences. These are based on trends identified in reports or incidents within the public domain.
How to report to CROSS
Making a report to CROSS is simple. You can learn more about the short process by visiting: https://www.cross-safety.org/uk/submit-a-report-uk.
No issue is too big or too small to report. Each report provides an opportunity to address shortfalls within the industry and may identify a precursor or trend indicating a potential future safety issue.
All reports are anonymised by removing personal information and any other identifiable details. This allows lessons to be shared in a no-blame culture.
If you have seen or experienced a fire safety or structural safety issue, please submit a report to CROSS.
Expansion into fire safety
In 2020, following a recommendation from Dame Judith Hackitt’s post-Grenfell Building a Safer Future report, the government funded a major expansion of CROSS to include fire safety reporting.
This support was vital in enabling the integration of the fire safety community into the scheme. Since then, CROSS-UK has also been supported by the Institution of Fire Engineers. Many reports on fire and structural safety concerns have been received, rigorously analysed by experts, and widely read.
CROSS-AUS and CROSS-US
CROSS also operates internationally, with branches in the USA and Australasia in addition to the UK. This global reach enables the identification of international trends and facilitates the sharing of lessons across borders.
