The Structural Engineer

WHEN this lecture was first proposed war was imminent and the rapid expansion of the Royal Air Force was arousing an interest in aeroplanes more widespread than ever before. It therefore seemed an appropriate period for this Institution to consider-I believe for the first time-the structural aspects of the growing science of aeronautics; and it was an honour to be gven this opportunity to place before the Institution something of the work of this special branch of engineering.
