1) Short History
Since the year 1933 the Dutch Government in common with the City of Rotterdam realised that the existing links between both shores of the New Maas” at Rotterdam were insufficient for a traffic of up to 21,000 vehicles and 78,000 cyclists per day (the figures referring to the Williams Bridge in 1939) as well as 18,000 pedestrians.
