Mr. FREDERICK S. SNOW (Vice-president) accepted with pleasure the honour of proposing a vote of thanks to Sir Frank Gill on behalf of the Institution for his excellent and interesting lecture.
The practical nature of much of the engineer’s work renders him very conscious of the words Cost and Economy. Yet, familiar as these words are, the subject is not very prominent in engineering text books, or in papers before Engineering Institutions, and though this question of economy is fundamental to engineering design, even to-day cases are found where economy is related inappropriately to first cost.
Sir Frank Gill
Mr J. M. Mawditt (M): The paper is to be commended for simplifying the design procedure associated with the use of the material stress -strain curves as required by clause 220.127.116.11. of CP 110.
