The PRESIDENT thanked the authors for their paper. Welding, he said, was a process which had developed rapidly in recent years and we were still learning a lot about it; this paper was of the kind which would bring out the arguments, for and against, which had been in our minds for many years. On behalf of the Institution he proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Palmer and Mr. Fowler.
AN Ordinary Meeting of the Institution of Structural Engineers was held at 11, Upper Belgrave Street, London, S.W.l. on the 22nd January, 1959, when the first Maitland Lecture was presented by Mr. 0. A. Kerensky, B.Sc., M.I.Struct.E., M.I.C.E. The President, Mr. Gordon S. McDonald, M.I.C.E., M.I.Mun.E., was in the Chair.
