Sutherland, Hugh B
The Structural Engineer, Volume 41, Issue 3, 1963
The paper describes tests to determine the strains throughout the length of reinforcement in a three-storey concrete column subject to bending at each storey. Other tests are described in which stresses in lap joints and in binders, both plain and helical, were determined. As a result of these tests it is suggested that worthwhile economies in binders and lapped bars are a possibility. J.M. Plowman
Just over three years ago, on lOth December 1959, our President, Mr. E. N. Underwood, presented his paper on multi-storey car parks, giving a very informative survey of the problem together with details of the car park at Bristol. The discussion which followed showed that there was considerable interest in the subject, but there was comparatively little practical experience of the problem. F.W. Gifford
