The Public and the Structural Engineer Stan Lawrence has again suggested how we might interact more effectively with the public and writes: Members who have the time to read and study information published in our journal may have observed two interrelated items of interest, now of increasing importance to the future of our Institution.
Mr E. D. Booth (F) Safety must have been an overriding consideration during the maintenance work. Presumably, that work predated the formal requirement to apply CDM Regulations; would the latter have affected the approach to safety actually adopted?
The new Millennium Stadium replaces the famous Arms Park rugby stadium in the heart of Cardiff, the capital City of Wales. The Rugby World Cup, which was hosted by Wales in October 1999, provided both the catalyst and the final completion date for the project. Conceived as a prominent and attractive landmark, it received £46m of lottery money from the Millennium Commission to become one of 12 major projects to mark the new Millennium (Fig 1). M.
