SOME ten years ago, whilst, endeavouring to discover the principles of design or arrangement, that, have made Wistler’s pictures so famous, I happened on one feature that could be traced in a number of the most important examples. This feature, so far as I hare been able to find, is not recognised by any writers dealing with design, art masters or others practising art.
