Technical Report Route

A pathway for candidates without accredited qualifications to demonstrate that they meet the academic requirements for membership.

The Technical Report Route (TRR) is an alternative pathway for applicants who do not hold an accredited engineering qualification but wish to demonstrate that they have the academic knowledge and understanding required for Chartered Membership (MIStructE/AIStructE), Incorporated Membership (IMIStructE), or Technician Membership (TIStructE).

Through a structured Technical Report and professional interview, assessed by the Academic Qualifications Panel, the route enables applicants to demonstrate that they meet the academic standards required for their chosen membership grade.

Who Is the Technical Report Route For?

You may be eligible for the Technical Report Route if you:

  • Do not hold an accredited MEng, BEng, or equivalent qualification

  • Hold non‑accredited degrees, ordinary degrees, HND/HNC, or national diplomas
