Pranav Darda presents his award-winning engineering solution.

Drury Medal 2020 winner

The Drury Medal is awarded to an individual or team under 25 years of age. The Drury Medal 2020 is awarded to Pranav Darda, MS Structures student at Politecnico di Milano.

In this presentation, introduced by YSEIDC judge and structural engineer John J. Muddiman, Pranav outlines his solution to the design brief. His proposed bamboo raft system is safe and cost-effective, and provides wind and flood resistance.

About YSEIDC

The Young Structural Engineers International Design Competition (YSEIDC) challenges young engineers from around the world to test their ingenuity, imagination and inventiveness, and apply their design skills to solve a engineering problem.

The competition is held every three years; in 2020 young engineers were asked to design a sustainable habitat for coastal communities from Least Developed Countries, who face the prospect of rising sea levels due to climate change.

Design considerations included housing, work areas, places of assembly, drainage and sanitation. These challenges reflect the issues faced by governments and NGOs across the world.
