This EEFIT Field Mission report describes the consequences of the 6.9 Mw earthquake which hit Loma Prieta, California on 17 October 1989. This was the largest earthquake on the San Andreas Fault since 1906 and the largest in California since 1952.

This report describes the tectonic setting, including strong motion records, and geotechnical aspects and phenomena in the epicentral area.
