The Mission investigated damage to structures local to the earthquake. Poor structural repair and adverse ground conditions contributed to the damage observed.
Following the 2020 earthquakes in Elazig and Izmir, Turkey, this EEFIT Resrech Grant 2022 winning project aims to construct comprehensive empirical fragility functions for reinforced concrete moment-resisting frame type structures and unreinforced masonry structures, from two damage datasets by employing statistical methods.
This EEFIT Field Mission report, and extended summary in Turkish, details the effects of the Mw 7.8 and Mw 7.5 earthquakes which struck southeastern Turkiye and northern Syria on 6 February 2023.
