Discover the work carried out to publish the second edition of Eurocode 5: Design of timber structures.

Under the European Commission Mandate M/515, all structural Eurocodes are being updated for publication in 2023. A key driver for these updates is the harmonisation of any new national technical initiatives, with a broader interest to other member countries, and state-of-the-art innovations on relevant topics. Within Eurocode 5, many topics of interest exist, such as the developments on:

  • Cross Laminated Timber

  • Timber Concrete Composites

  • Screw reinforcements

  • Vibration analysis

  • Stability and racking

  • Preventing brittle failure modes in timber connections

Watch the lecture recording to:

  • Understand the new topics currently being developed for addition to Eurocode 5

  • Appreciate other amendments being considered with a view to improve the ease of use of the standard

  • Gain an insight of how these topics could affect UK structural engineering practice
