The presentation will focus on the design and construction of a pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the border River Mura near Ceršak (Slovenia - Austria). The bridge was constructed as part of an international cycling link, connecting the municipalities of Šentilj (Slovenia) and Straß in der Steiermark (Austria), jointly financed through EU Interreg funds.Structurally, the bridge is designed as an elastically supported timber girder system suspended from steel cables anchored into concrete pylon abutments.
It spans the Mura River with a static span of 86 m and a total length of 98 m. The load-bearing superstructure consists of two parallel, massive glulam beams (GL28h, 280x1280 mm) following the bridge profile. These beams are supported by steel bearings at the abutments and suspended from main steel cables via steel hangers and spacers at 8.60 m intervals. The glulam beams are laterally interconnected with steel frames and a bracing system. The steel frames are positioned vertically at a base spacing of 4.30 m. The bridge connects the Austrian bank with an island located between the natural riverbed and the intake channel of the Ceršak Small Hydropower Plant.
