April 2024 marks two years since the Building Safety Act established a new and enhanced regulatory regime for building safety and construction products. It has reshaped responsibilities and systems for everyone involved in designing, constructing, and managing Higher Risk Buildings (HRBs). Join us for this interactive panel where you will have the opportunity to ask the expert panel your questions on:
Building control regime
Gateways
Golden thread
Safety cases
Impact on industrial & small domestic projects
Gain a deeper understanding of how the Building Safety Act affects your duties & liabilities and strategies for compliance
Acquire practical knowledge on implementing the Building Safety Act in real-world scenarios
Explore the implications of the new regime for HRBs and its broader impact on the industry
Discover how the Building Safety Act influences various projects, including industrial and small domestic projects
Gavin is an Associate at Conisbee, leading a team of structural engineers within the practice, working on a variety of new-build and refurbishment projects. He is currently working with the London Borough of Newham in providing Structural Safety Case Reports for the higher-risk buildings within the borough. As part of this work, Conisbee were an early user of the Institution’s new guidelines on writing Safety Cases Reports.
With 24 years of experience leading UK and international building projects, Jon is a Director in AECOM’s Building Structures team and Technical Practice Lead for UK+Europe. His role includes coordinating the structural engineering output of AECOM’s Building Safety Act (BSA) working group. Jon is also chair of the IStructE’s Digital Workflows and Computational Design Panel, and has been working with the IStructE in the development of BSA and Golden Thread guidance for members.

This course is designed to provide structural engineers with a greater understanding of fire safety, key legislation, and the principles of risk analysis in order to ensure that adequate structural performance in fire is achieved. Participants will examine case studies of structural and non-structural failures as a result of fire.
This two-day, online course introduces seismic design of civil engineering structures. It builds on the basics of structural dynamics and engineering seismology. The course focuses on seismic loading and design codes, conceptual seismic design principles and analysis for seismic loading, and design and detailing of structural members.
This half-day in-person course provides guidance to early-career structural engineers to develop a better understanding of geotechnical engineering and use that knowledge to enhance and promote sustainable design.
This one-day, online, practical course introduces timber connections in detail and several other advanced topics in timber design to Eurocode 5.
This one-day, online advanced practical workshop will teach complex timber engineering through worked examples. It encourages problem-solving through teaching tools and group discussion.
This one-day, online course offers an introduction to timber design to Eurocode 5.
Jointly presented by RIBA and The Institution of Structural Engineers, this webinar discusses integrative computational design, testing and construction within low carbon materials, including timber, bio-fibres and natural stone.
This course provides an introduction to structural steelwork design to Eurocode 3 for building design.
