This online talk will discuss the appraisal, conservation management strategy and the stabilisation process of a number of these ruinous structures.

Ireland is full of archaeology and much of this is in the form of upstanding remains of stone masonry buildings. Frequently in ruins, they attract the curiosity and attention of local communities and visitors alike. These structures form notable landmarks in the landscape and most are either on the record of monuments and places or in addition national monuments or on the record of protected structures and as such attract special attention under legislation.

The care of such monuments falls to a number of professionals and trades, the key aspect being their long term stability and durability which lies with the structural engineer.

This talk will discuss the appraisal, conservation management strategy and the stabilisation process of a number of these ruinous structures in recent years.
