Values of the critical combination of elastic buckling loads for prismatic columns, loaded with uniformly distributed axial loads acting in combination with an end load, are presented. Numerical results for the four conventional boundary conditions are given in tabular and graphical form. Empirical relations are also suggested to facilitate interpolation of results. T.S. Dalal

The rebuilding of the British Embassy in Rome presented an opportunity for British consultants to work in another European country and to compare the skills and techniques of the two building industries. This paper outlines the organisation of building design in Italy. It describes the design and analysis of the Embassy building and some of the problems encountered during construction. Edmund Happold
