Professor Ding Jiemin argues that the core of innovative structural design is to break through traditional design concepts and procedure, better integrating it into the comprehensive building design.

His lecture explains how structural design:

  • should fully reflect the beauty of architectural design and make it more rational and safe (making reference to the Shanghai Tower project)
  • can make full use of characteristics of various materials so that they can be reflected in the architecture
  • should pay attention to the development of architectural technology and absorb into the existing structural system (making reference to the Tangshan Gymnasium project and high-rise buildings in high seismic areas)
  • will surely achieve a brighter future when combined with architectural and innovated design techniques
