Congratulations to the joint winners of the 2023 Young Structural Engineering Professional Award

The Young Structural Engineering Professional Award is an internationally recognised mark of acheivement that showcases young engineers who are driving the profession foward. Being a recipient of the award means that they have demonstrated the skills and achievements necessary to mark them out as the "one to watch" among the Institution's global membership.

After an extensive judging process, we are pleased to announce our joint winners for 2023 as Matthew Penellum and Sharjeel Larik. The panel were unable to choose just one winner this year, with Matthew and Sharjeel both showcasing an impressive variety of skills and acheivements.
 

Sharjeel Larik

Sharjeel showcased impressive experience in a variety of projects in his initial submission and further wowed judges in the interview with his leadership and management skills.

Matthew Penellum

Matthew impressed the judges in the final interview with his excellent technical knowledge as well as a demonstration of talent in many different areas, alongside a clear passion for the profession.

The judging panel narrowed down all the entries to a final six, which also included Robert Jones, Richard Walmsley, Chiara Bariviera and Lukas Ziak. All finalists were of excellent standard and show great promise for the future of engineering. After a rigerous interview process, the judges narrowed this down to our winners.

Both Matthew and Sharjeel have shown extensive knowledge, a variety of skills and noteable acheivements to be named as worthy winners of this internationally recognised award.
