This webinar explores the use of structural glass and fibre-polymer composites (FPC).

The climate emergency is challenging engineers to consider a broader palette of non-traditional and novel structural materials.

The Novel materials series explores how engineers can approach both design and construction with these materials in mind, and it offers practical advice on what to consider to utilise them successfully within projects.

In this webinar:

  • Mariska Van Der Velden, Eckersley O'Callaghan Engineers, presents on innovative uses of glass and its application as a structural material, with a review of various case studies. She also looks at the application of load combinations in the upcoming Eurocode update and analyses briefly how structural glass can be used as a circular material.

  • Liesbeth Tromp discusses the benefits and challenges of fibre-polymer composites (FPC) in construction. Addressing its technical and sustainable life cycle aspects from case studies, Liesbeth aims to help engineers and project managers identify the opportunities where FPC can be a valuable and competitive alternative to traditional materials.

Reasons to watch

  • Find out the latest developments in construction materials

  • Identify the newest options available for reducing your carbon footprint

  • Discover best practices around sustainable design

Intended for

  • SME owners, directors, and managers

  • Engineers working with structural glass and FPC

Speakers

Mariska van der Velden Project Engineer, Eckersley O’Callaghan

In her role at Eckersley O'Callaghan, Mariska is making significant contributions to glass engineering and design. She’s involved in various R&D initiatives, and sustainability research, and participates in EDI and social committees, highlighting her commitment to innovation and responsible engineering practices.

Liesbeth Tromp Advisor Fibre Reinforced Plastics, Infrastructure Royal Haskoning DHV

With a background in applied research and lightweight engineering, since 2010 Liesbeth has focused on implementing fibre-polymer composites in bridges and lock doors at the globally operating Engineering firm Royal Haskoning DHV. She actively contributes to developing design guidance, including the pre-Eurocode Technical Specification TS19101 Design of fibre-polymer composite structures.
