The Ordinary Meeting of the Institution at 6 pm on Thursday 12 February 1970 is to be a Joint Meeting with the British Section of the Societe des lngenieurs Civils de France. A number of French guest speakers have been invited, including M. Yves Saillard, the Technical Director of the Syndicat National du Beton Arme et des Techniques Industrialisees.
A series of uniformly and eccentrically prestressed concrete beams was tested in combined bending and torsion, with ratios of bending moment to twisting moment varying from pure bending to pure torsion. In all, twenty-three prestressed beams and two plain concrete beams were tested. The deflections and strains due to bending and torsion were measured at selected points. Professor R.H.
