The Informal Interdisciplinary Working Party of Engineering, Technology and Science Societies was set up with the purpose of defining areas of common interest between disciplines and debating such areas as seemed appropriate.
The paper describes the application of the finite element method of analysis for the determination of deflection and moment values in rectangular slabs supported at the four corners. Two types of corner boundary conditions were investigated: simple supports and fixed supports. Various loading conditions were studied for three aspect ratios within the range 1 to 2. A method allowing for column slab interaction is described in the Appendix.
